The great playwright and man of letters was born in Tripoli in 1878. He studied at the Law School of Athens but early on he worked as a journalist beside Vlassis Gavrielides. As a writer, he collaborated with all major theater groups of the 20th century and with the great ladies of theater Kyveli and Kotopouli. His most famous work is Karagiozis, who was also a great success of Kotopouli. In the 1930’s he was a member of the Artistic Committee and Director of the Municipal College of the National Theater and, after the war, Director of the National Opera. From 1932 until 1946 he served as President of the Greek Society of Playwrights. Synadinos was editor of several newspapers and periodicals. He was prolific, the extent of his theatrical work amounts to 58 plays. But he also wrote essays, such as the History of Modern Music. The house where Theodorod Synadinos was born is located in the heart of Tripoli. It is a remarkable neoclassical mansion, as his family was very wealthy. It is a two storey structure, the ground floor formerly housed shops and the residence itself was on the first floor. This is a classic example of the old, aristocratic Tripoli.
